Michael and Evo…Award Nominated Authors!

Posted in trifle on March 30th, 2005 by Tee Morris

I got word today from Gwen Gades and Tom Anderson of Dragon Moon Press that Michael and Evo are part of an award-nominated title for the independent publisher. The Fantasy Writer’s Companion has been short listed in the category of “Performing Arts and Drama” (apparently, that is where they want writing guides listed) for ForeWord Magazine’s 2004 “Book of the Year” Award.

Congratulations, guys! You two rock!!!

Open letter to other podcasters

Posted in trifle on March 29th, 2005 by Brian Brown

Drawing heavily on an RSS rant I went on months back, this note is to implore all podcasters to do one simple act: subscribe to your own feed.

I can’t tell you how many times (well, it’s been four) I’ve had to contact podcasters and say “Dude, the links in your feed? They don’t work. Fix them.”

Great beginnings

Someday I’m going to write a book with this as an opening line:

So there I was, dressed like Pinocchio in drag with my dick in a splint.

Mike & Evo Get All “Chili Palmer” with the Press…

Posted in trifle on March 24th, 2005 by Tee Morris

The Dragon Page scored some well-deserved ink in this in-depth article on video blogging and podcasting. While the article starts off with a hint of a “Who do these weenies think they are?” attitude, the reporter actually cranks out a very sharp, very slick article on what podcasting is all about, how people are doing it, and what the future holds for us as podcasters and video bloggers.

Now I’m thinking “Hmmm…vlogging, for the thespian in me? But where’s the fun in that?” First, the file sizes for a vlog have to be huge, even as an MPEG! The bandwidth for them has also got to be a monster. And what aboutportability? It’s not like you can watch them on the iPod…

Then I read in this article that Apple is working on an iPod that plays video. A VIDEO IPOD?! Okay, now before I completely spaz out over this (too late), I want to know a few things about this possibility, such as…

  • The battery life
  • Memory capacity
  • Screen resolution
  • Starting price (I’m going to say Apple cuts us a break and we get the first model at $599.)

I just can’t make up my mind what geek avenue to take in life…while trying to make a career at writing Science Fiction and Fantasy! ARRRGH!!!!

On a side note: how long do you think it will be before Dragon Page’s best friend, Wil Wheaton, starts up his own vblog? It’s familiar territory for the guy who’s got the biggest one in four counties…

Soundgarden + working from home = nope.

Posted in trifle on March 24th, 2005 by Evo Terra

WARNING! Listening to Soundgarden’s Blow Up the Outside World while trying to finish up a project before the weekend will without question be detrimental to your deadline.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled boring and uneventful lives. Someone give me a match…

Did you NOT watch Spiderman 2?

Posted in trifle on March 21st, 2005 by Evo Terra

From the BBC News:

A fireball created in a US particle accelerator has the characteristics of a black hole, a physicist has said. It was generated at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) in New York, US, which smashes beams of gold nuclei together at near light speeds.

When the gold nuclei smash into each other they are broken down into particles called quarks and gluons.

These form a ball of plasma about 300 times hotter than the surface of the Sun. This fireball, which lasts just 10 million, billion, billionths of a second, can be detected because it absorbs jets of particles produced by the beam collisions.

But Nastase, of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, says there is something unusual about it. Ten times as many jets were being absorbed by the fireball as were predicted by calculations.

The Brown researcher thinks the particles are disappearing into the fireball’s core and reappearing as thermal radiation, just as matter is thought to fall into a black hole and come out as “Hawking” radiation.

However, even if the ball of plasma is a black hole, it is not thought to pose a threat. At these energies and distances, gravity is not the dominant force in a black hole.

Uh huh. Tell that to Doc Oc, would ya?
