An update for Katie…

Posted in trifle on March 14th, 2005 by Tee Morris

Don’t let this “Imperial troublemaker” fool you. (Although her showing off a bit of the leg might make me join the rebellion…) Cheralyn Lambeth is actually part of the 501’s Carolina Garrison (Their motto: First Through the Door!), and can perform a costume change faster than Cher! (You should see her Isis homoage…WOW!) Cheralyn’s also in charge of accepting donations for Katie, a young girl who is suffering from an inoperable brain tumor. Cheralyn’s been the front-runner in “Kisses for Katie.”

This weekend at Stellarcon 29, this trooper raised enough money to pushed the cash earned for Katie just over the $18,000 mark. Way to go, Cheralyn!

I can’t help but think, though…if everyone reading this blog donated $5 via PayPal, how much could The Dragon Page raise for Katie? That’s five bucks. Five. Dig deep, folks, and pony up a Lincoln. So maybe you won’t be able to afford a couple of beers for a day or two…

It’s for Katie. Trust me. She’s worth it.

“A Scanner Darkly”

Posted in trifle on March 14th, 2005 by Summer Brooks

Another Phillip K. Dick tale is headed for the big screen, and the trailer is up now over at Yahoo Movies.

So, would you call that live animation, or animated live action?

This one’s been online for a while now, and I’ve somehow missed it until now. Yeah, I’m running behind.

And I should probably warn Evo that this film features Keanu, shouldn’t I?

Spirit gets ‘Dusted’ on Mars.

Posted in trifle on March 13th, 2005 by Michael R. Mennenga

This is a cool story in any measure of science or sci-fi. Over the past several months of cruising around the dusty Martian surface, the solar panels on the rover Spirit have become increasing obscured by red dust. In a chance encounter, a dust-devil has given our rover a new lease on life.

“Mars scientists and engineers are elated about a dust-busting blast that has struck the Spirit rover at its Gusev crater exploration site.

Turns out that a martian whirlwind dubbed a dust devil likely zoomed over the robot high up in the Columbia Hills. That fleeting flyby effectively cleaned Spirit’s solar arrays, giving the robot a new lease on life.

Engineers report that the rover’s power reading quickly shot up to almost as high as when the rover landed on Mars over a year ago.”

Just goes to show that science can be just as much fun as science fiction. The Mars rovers have already lived far beyond the time they were expected to survive the harsh environment, but this new event has got everyone wondering just how long the rovers will continue to operate. With the solar panels clear, and the rover again at full power, it may yet be possible that we see the evidence of live uncovered. I’ll be watching with great interest.

Government terrorism works!

Posted in trifle on March 13th, 2005 by Michael R. Mennenga

In a story from YaHoo News, the government in India has employed terrorizing tactics to force homeowners to pay up their property taxes.

“After many residents ignored repeated demands to settle overdue property taxes. authorities in a city in Andhra Pradesh state have sent 20 groups of drummers to play outside offenders’ houses for the past week.

“They don’t stop until people agree to clear the dues.”

The new method seems to be working, though. One week of incessant drumming has cleared 18 percent of the backlog.”

Great idea, but it would never fly over here. I can see the line of lawyers forming already to file suit and wage war in the name of human rights.

I really dislike being called “fake”

Posted in trifle on March 12th, 2005 by Brian Brown

I debated whether or not to blog about this. But what the hell.

The post immediately preceding this one shows the vanity license plate I applied for and received on Friday. Mike’s already got the “DRGNPAGE” (or something like that) plate, so I thought I’d step up and drop down the twenty-five smackers for the “PODCAST” plate. I’ve never had a vanity plate before, but it seemed like a cool thing to do- in a very geek sort of way.

Wishing to share my geekness with my fellow podcasters as well as viewers of this blog, I posted a link to the previous post to the Podcasters mailing list I belong to. It’s a place where heated arguments pissing contests discussions quickly ignite, so I was all prepared for the “you’re such a sell out” type posts. But what I wasn’t expecting was to be called a liar and a fake, if in not so many words.

To see the pic of the plate, scroll down a bit. To see my non-family-friendly reply pick to the dickwad that insinuated the above, click the “keep reading” link below…

I’m the coolest podcaster ever!

Posted in trifle on March 11th, 2005 by Evo Terra

podcasting licenseI have been granted the first podcasting license in the state of Arizona. OK, so it’s a license plate. I can still dream, can’t I?

But seriously, how cool is this? :)

Podcast and other RSS feeds updated

Posted in trifle on March 11th, 2005 by Evo Terra

Dammit. Completely and totally forgot to update the podcast.xml and index.xml feeds to include the changes made to the blog. So for those of you who missed out on your DP fix this week, you should be getting updates ASAP.

Sorry!

Website mostly fixed… mostly

Posted in trifle on March 11th, 2005 by Evo Terra

Well, I’ve managed to get most things on the site functioning normally. Everything links to a detail or individual entry page and everything should be commentable (think I just made up a word.)

Feel free to poke around and email me with reports of screwups. Some pending changes to keep in mind before you berate me either in comment or email form:

- Past Shows and Blogging are going away. The new index page contains the blog entries, and Past Shows is past its prime. Was considering adding an Archives section, but decided the Search box handles that function.

- Trying to find a way to tie the Guest entry with the show they were on. MT guru’s out there are free to send me suggestions on how to associate two entry IDs with one another.

- I’ll eventually update the Tune In page.

Wingin’ It! gets a logo

A Stormtrooper with Photoshop skills? Whoda thunk it?

Thanks to TD-0013 (contributor to our new “Different Point of View” segment) for the killer new graphic for the Wingin’ It! show!

Yes, I’m updating the site.

Yes, I know it’s all fucked up.

No, you’re not helping.

Yes, I’d like you to fuck off for a while.
