Podiobooks: would you pay?
Yeah, so I’m kinda on this podiobook kick. Deal with it.
I’ve posted a poll on Podcast Alley that isn’t getting as much attention as I’d like. Maybe podiobooks are under the radar for most podcasters, but for you podcatchers our there, I’d like you to play, too.
The question is: what amount (if any) would you pay for a podiobook?

Evo, I love the idea of podiobooks and would pay to listen, although I am not sure how much I would pay. Maybe $.99 a chapter, but that would require that all chapters be similar in length and for longer books could get expensive. What might work best is a a subscription system where listeners pay $4.99 a month to listen to the 3 podiobooks that the Dragon Page offers. This would require you guys to have flow of podiobooks and you would also have to distribute the money amoung the authors. This has the advantage of one stop shopping for the listeners and is something I would join. If it took off you could even have more then 3 available podiobooks at a time and let the listener select which 3 they want to listen to. Overall I think you need to look at an iTunes type model and keep the payments small. At $.99 a chapter I wouldn’t think twice about purchasing a 20 chapter podiobook, if you charged me $19.99 for the same thing all at once I may not buy it. Finally, whatever you do make sure the podiobook is in normal MP3 format. I do not want Microsoft or Apple’s format that is protected so it can only be played on certain devices. I have an MP3 player that does not support any of those formats. I also listen on the Palm that may not support many of those formats. If I can’t easy listen on all of my various devices I won’t buy no matter what the price. Keep up the great work I listen to all the stuff on the Dragon Page.
