Dragon Page Wingin’ It #05: Comic Books, with Tee

Posted in DPWI Shows on April 6th, 2005 by Michael R. Mennenga

What’s on this week:

- Tee Morris Jumps on Skype to talk with us.
- We get two reviews of Sin City.
- Butterfly Effect part 2.
- Mur Lafferty (Geek Fu Action Grip) tells us about Getting Into Gaming.
- Stormtrooper TD0013 gives us another installment from the Imperial Battlefront.
- We talk Comic Books while Evo Gets Drunk?

And as usual, just a whole lot of fun and goofiness as only Michael & Evo can deliver.

The making of a podcast star

Posted in trifle on April 5th, 2005 by Evo Terra

Wow. Reading that again, that sounds pretty damned pretentious, huh? Maybe I should change it. Nah… good for Google indexing.

A special thanks to everyone who’s been casting votes for our shows over on Podcast Alley. (If you haven’t, do. Vote for The Dragon Page | Vote for Slice of Scifi. Assuming you like the shows. Which I suppose you must, or you wouldn’t be here. Unless you’re a heckler. That’s OK. We can take it.) In a few short days, our Slice of Scifi podcast (subscribe) has shot up to the number two position.

Just as exciting has been the meteoric rise (but shouldn’t that me a meteoric fall? it’s not like meteors rise once they’ve impacted the earth as a meteorite, and I don’t know of many that change their mind in mid-plunge to head back into space…) of this shows podcast, where we’re sitting nicely in the #14 spot as of this posting.

So far, the podcasting community has been OK with our stardom. Yes, we knocked a few shows down a rung, but we did it without the horrid mudslinging, name calling and mother-sodomizing which has been the norm over there on Podcast Alley. No, for the most part, everyone has been civil and nice to us. Maybe they just don’t wanna piss off the scifi geeks for fear of us pulling out our phasers or something.

So again, thanks to all that voted. You’ll have to do it again next month, most likely, as Podcast Alley reshuffles the deck each month. So don’t be surprised when we say “would you please be so kind as to do that again?”

Free stuff

K.L. Napier has the patience of Job when it comes to getting me to do stuff. Long ago, she asked me to tell everyone about a raffle which can score you some killer free books, gift certificates and other coolio stuff.

Score all the details of the raffle right here, and you do not have to be present to win. Sweet!

From a simple trailer comes a STAR WARS Rant from Hell

Posted in trifle on April 4th, 2005 by Tee Morris

I really dig going to the movies. I love the whole experience: finding the best seats, picking up the munchies at the counter, seeing action on a huge screen, and trailers. I so dig trailers! I actually collect QuickTime movie trailers, and I’m damn proud of that collection. I think, over the years, I’m getting pretty good at figuring out what to expect with a film based on a trailer. Yeah, I’ll still get stung now and then, but some have remained true to what the film delivers. And just for the record, I think the best trailer ever made to date goes to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy which is not only promising an incredible time, but shows that the director “got the joke.”

And then there are trailers like the one I just saw for Episode III. Two words: train wreck.

Let me start from the beginning…

April Fools Prank Update - 04/01/05 07:03 MST

I’m proud of all the commenters to this post. All y’all got it. I don’t think we received any email from freaking out fans, but I was on IM with someone who got a quick ping from one person who bought it.

And if I can screw with one person (other than the entire cast and crew of tDP which bought my pranks hook, line and sinker), my April Fools is complete.

And if you missed it…
