Dragon Page Wingin’ It #20: Things Geeks Love
What’s on this week:
- This week the studio is full. Summer and Joe make it for the show and all type of topics ensue.
- Mike is drinking crappy american beer, while Evo continues to enjoy the beer Paul brought last week.
- A great conversation about good scifi movies that got canceled. (There are sure to be a few of your favorites in this list.)
- This week’s Duel of the Fates by Jack Mangan, we are into the second round and Tomi takes on Godzilla.
(Jack’s forthcoming e-book, “Spherical Tomi”, will be published by Creative Guy Publishing.) - Mur Lafferty (Geek Fu Action Grip) Tells us about a new game she invented - B-Movie Bingo. (Buy some beer, it’s a drinking game too!)
- Scifi Poetry Slam! This week we present Geek Love by Robert G. Parent.
Plus We hate hackers, Mike can’t read, and more!

bittorrent is only useful if you a) want a popular file, b) have everything port forwarded properly, and c) really don’t have any other way to get the file you’re looking for.
In my experience, there’s no reason to use p2p if you have a direct download option available. It probably won’t be faster. Podcasts via p2p? Why? I mean, I understand why YOU would want it, but if I can still get the files from your site directly, there’s no reason for me to find a secondary route. What would be interesting, perhaps, is a podcast aggregator that was also a podcast p2p. It could get parts from any of the sources, including the direct download source and spread out the work.

I used BT once and never bothered with it again. Even if the process worked the way it is suppose to, the negative connotations from all the illegal content gives me enough pause to look for better ways to get content.

NO NO NO! you’ve got it all wrong! FORCE MIKE TO READ! He should read everything! I can’t tell you how many laughs I get from hearing him mess stuff up every time he reads. I think he should read more. Give him difficult ones, give him easy ones, we’re always assured of a great mispronunciation or garbled word.
In fact, I say you start giving him some tongue twisters to read. That’ll be good for a ton of tongue twisting titters.

I’ve got a question…on iTunes, Wingin It is described as “Explicit” and has a warning label….ummm, why? Wingin It isn’t explicit, is it? I’ve never thought it was…

Re: BitTorrent. As I understand it, the rate at which you can download data is directly related to the rate at which you are uploading data, so that the more that the system can use you as a server the better performance you get as a client (so as to encourage more machines to act as servers).

It’s because they might curse. I think for the other shows they decidedly don’t curse, but Wingin’ It is more… laid back. F-bombs may apply.
Michael: I usually don’t use bt just because it’s a hassle. Finding the .torrent to find the seeds to find the file to find the.. feh. There are easier ways.

You know, I don’t know why, but now the website doesn’t even reload after I’ve posted a comment. It appears to just time out and give up, leaving the comment page exactly like it was before I hit Post. Apparently the data goes through, though. I dunno if that’s better or worse than the error it was giving before that caused folks to post 4 times.

hmmm, I don’t think I have ever heard Mike or Evo drop an F-bomb…oh well, whatever

It has been alleged that iTunes was removing feeds which did not label “explicit” when they were dealing with “adult” topics. And since I’ve said “shit” more than one time on the show, I figured the safest bet is to stick it with “explicit”.
Don’t get me started on this whole lable thing, as I tend to have a different opinion than most. I’m of the mind that… nope. I said I’m not getting into this.

Glad you’re enjoying DotF, Evo!
Now the Kick Mystic Ass Ninjas podcast - that would need to be labeled ‘EXPLICIT’.

It’s explicit for ninjas to kick mystic ass?

I like Mike’s voice. Jack Mangan’s voice though… I can’t even listen to Duel of the Fates… Get some emotions man!

I agree….Mike, you have a great radio voice, but has anyone ever told you that your luagh sometimes sounds like Scooby Doo? :p

What can I say. . . I’m half-Vulcan. I’ll try to contact Stephen Wright to do the reading for the Duel of the Fates finals.

When does Michael get his own cult? I think he should read more!
It’s too bad that the past show CDs will take so long!
