CP & E,

There have been quite a few requests for me to release BILLI as a podiobook. While I'm considering the idea, I'm also needing to write BILLI's sequel and get started on the next MOREVI. If I can get ahead in my creative cycle, I'll make it happen, but as of right now, I need to figure out where my time management is failing. ;^)

I'm not saying BILLI won't happen as a podiobook...I just need to take some options under consideration first.

Premium content would be a good thing, if it means more content. Now that I'm a podiobook junkie, I don't ever want to go back to stacks of CDs!

Heck, the amounts that have been kicked around so far are so tiny...I mean, how much do you spend on a coffee and a muffin in the morning? Closes in on $5 if you're a Dunkin Donuts kind of person, and probably is over $5 if you fly Starbucks.

These books are worth *so* much more than a coffee and a donut!!! Or even TWO donuts! :)

CP,

No, you're not overlooking anything. Podiobooks.com will soon rear it's attractive head further, offering free podiobooks to anyone who wishes to subscribe.

Additionally, we may also offer "premium" content in the very near future, where there could be a charge to access content. That will be the exception, rather than the rule, as I firmly believe that building the audience is the "greater good", allowing the author additional revenue streams in the future.

So hold tight while we work out a few last minute kinks. We'll be live soon!

Oh we've heard about Scott's next podiobook project but what about yours Tee?. If it's Billi then i'd happily pay a $5 fee (ala Ancestor), you could have two downloads one free ad supported, the other a $5 charge with no ad's and an unabridged recording.

How do you think that would go?. I guess the majority would still go for the freebie but your fans would definately show you the cash. Plus a lot of the newcomers would start listening to the freebie, get themselves hooked then move over to the charging podcast as it would be the superior product.

Would such a set-up be viable?, or have I totally overlooked something?.

Thoughts?.

Chris...

This was Scott's intention from the beginning: to try and catch the attention of a print publisher. For me, MOREVI was a promotion for LEGACY OF MOREVI, and with the reaction I received at Westercon 58 and the pre-sales on Amazon.com, I achieved my goal. For Mark, it was to broaden his audience. Again, goal reached.

Podiobooks, as they are a free product, should have a goal in mind, whether it is something as basic as getting your name out there to winning the attention of a publisher. Technically, yes, EarthCore was a podcast-only novel...but like any publication in any media, when an opportunity presents itself, you as the creator should consider if this is an avenue you want to take. (Another example would be Douglas Adams' HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE. Originally a radio show, it was so popular, publishers wanted a novel...) The wonderful thing about Scott's production is that it may have never seen light of day (nor have received the anticipation for pre-sales) had it not been for podcasting. This brings home the reality that if you as an author wonder if podiobooks work as a promotional tool, the answer is...

YES!

But Chris, don't sweat it. Not only will EarthCore still be available on iTunes, Podiobooks, Podcast Pickle, etc., but I've heard rumblings that Scott is looking for another band to provide music for his NEXT podiobook. You go, Scott. Rock on!

(So when are we doing our first signing together?!?)

It was only a matter of time. But in the book we don't get to hear to cool way you say WWW. Oh well, you'll have to make sure the URL is in there for those who only read the book.
