Evo featured on Escape Pod… again.

Posted in trifle on November 25th, 2005 by Evo Terra

I was honored to again read a short story for Escape Pod, the science fiction podcast magazine. This time, it was Crystal Balls by Susie Hawes. Though I blew the Latino accent on my last story, this time Steve asked me to fake a NY accent. I figure next time, if there is a next time, he’ll ask for an Okie accent. Hey, at least I don’t have to fake that one.

I think this one went much better. What do you think? Tell me hear if you like, but I’d really appreciate it if you’d tell Steve over there.

Area 51 closes up shop

Posted in trifle on November 24th, 2005 by Evo Terra

One of our favorite podcasts, The Area 51 Show, has closed up shop. According to their website:

The AREA 51 SHOW would like to thank all of our dedicated following for their emails and concerns. As of right now, “Team Area51″ cannot create any new episodes due to these disgusting and unfortunate events: First, our goal of finding sponsorship within 6 months was not realized, and the recording studios involved with the show’s production could not continue their hectic schedules without it. Secondly, each of us involved needed to concentrate a little more on “making ends meet”, and could not dedicate the full-time work necessary to make a show like this a reality…

Too bad, really. They had some funny, funny stuff. But it does show just what sort of effort it takes to put things like this together. We’re not sponsored, either, for any of the shows we do. Might I take this moment to point out that Donation button on the upper left hand side?

Podcast Expo funnies?

Someone (Mark from Wichita) had way too much time on their hands, and Photoshop. Always a bad combination:

Dragon Page Wingin’ It #36: Drunk Tech Podcasters

Posted in DPWI Shows on November 15th, 2005 by Evo Terra

So much for a vacation. If you’re expecting a normal Wingin’ It! this week, you are sorely mistaken. No Mike, just me (Evo) and a bunch of drunk podcasters of all things tech. I apologize now.

You’ll be hearing from/about:

  • Brad P. and a part of Disembodied Voices.
  • Victor from Typical PC User really, really drunk
  • Chuck Tomasi and Kreg Steppe of ChuckChat Technorama
  • George Starcher and Kevin Devin from In the Trenches
  • Steve gave me a Stone Pale Ale to drink and a room to podcast from
  • All (but Brad P) are guys from Friends in Tech
  • Phil from Austrailia tries to pick up some local action
  • Portable Sanitation conference next door
  • Philip brought the mead! From Redstone Meadery
  • Gizmos seen at the show. Yeah, it’s a tech podcast. Sorry. Less intellectual conversations will continue next week.
  • Phil gets close to spoilers, and I don’t think I bleeped very well.
  • Kreg wants to see Phil’s lucky charms
  • Brad pimps for Mark Forman’s Getting a Leg Up
  • And a shout out to an oft contributor to Wingin’ It!
  • Phil takes one last chance to infect Yanks with Austrailian candy

And check out the pics from the show on Flickr here and here.

Podcast Expo photo sets

Posted in trifle on November 14th, 2005 by Evo Terra

I’ve posted a few photos Phil was kind enough to take for me, since I was stoopid and didn’t bring a camara.

Evo’s pics from the Podcast Expo.

If you want to see a pile more check out the “podcastexpo” tag on Flickr. Wow.

Gotta go back to work today. That sucks.

The pic on the left is of me signing books. That’s Mark Jeffrey, author of the podiobook The Pocket and the Pendant, in front, and Expo oganizer Tim Borouquin’s wife Nicole behind the table with me.

Podcasting and Portable Media Expo. Where good times were had by all!

Bitter beer cures cancer

Posted in trifle on November 13th, 2005 by Evo Terra

Heh… no way I could get away with writing that as an herbalist, but as a beer drinker and a podcaster, what the hell!

Thanks to Charlies for sending over a story about a scientific study on the effects of a chemical compund found in hops (and therefore hoppy, bitter beer) which has implications in treating cancer.

I’ll keep this post herbal-freakiness free, but suffice to say I am aware of the healing properties of Hops for many things. And now I have one more reason to enjoy my bitter beer.

The New Draco-Vista Studio

Posted in trifle on November 12th, 2005 by Michael R. Mennenga

After a few long days of work, the New-and-Improved Draco-Vista Studio is now ready for action.

A clean studio with a clean mixer. What else could you want?

Did I mention that I love my job!

Podcasting for Dummies

So, I’m gearing up for Astronomicon 2005 in Rochester, NY, when a box of books arrived on my front door step. I was hoping they would be MOREVIs (as I am currently fresh out of the title!) but instead, it turned out to be a most welcomed surprise…

Podcasting for Dummies is now officially off-the-press and in-my-hands!

The official date for the book hitting your favorite bookstore (which, I’ve just been told, will get center isle exposure in B&N’s!) is not until November 17; but if you are in the Rochester, NY area this weekend, are interested in podcasting, and you see me at Astro ‘05, I will have copies for sale at a special Astronomicon rate. Evo will also be promoting Podcasting for Dummies at the Portable Media Expo in Ontario, California…oh yeah, and he’ll be accepting the Peoples’ Choice Award for “Top Rated Podcast” for Slice of SciFi

…but I got the books first. Yeah, Wiley Press think I’m da bomb!

Along with Podcasting for Dummies, I will have for sale this weekend my other 2005 releases, Farscape Forever and Legacy of MOREVI.

I hope to see some of you in Rochester. Evo, knock ‘em dead in Ontario, man!!!
