Area 51 closes up shop

One of our favorite podcasts, The Area 51 Show, has closed up shop. According to their website:

The AREA 51 SHOW would like to thank all of our dedicated following for their emails and concerns. As of right now, “Team Area51″ cannot create any new episodes due to these disgusting and unfortunate events: First, our goal of finding sponsorship within 6 months was not realized, and the recording studios involved with the show’s production could not continue their hectic schedules without it. Secondly, each of us involved needed to concentrate a little more on “making ends meet”, and could not dedicate the full-time work necessary to make a show like this a reality…

Too bad, really. They had some funny, funny stuff. But it does show just what sort of effort it takes to put things like this together. We’re not sponsored, either, for any of the shows we do. Might I take this moment to point out that Donation button on the upper left hand side?

  • Well doesn’t that just suck. I had wondered why I stopped getting the show in my feed. :( I hope they keep us posted as to what happens next.

Let us be thankful we still have the Dragon Page and Slice ‘o Sci Fi and good ole Wingin’ It.

Speaking of which, I noticed I didn’t get either this week. Too much turkey guys?

  • I’m going to have to give a shout out to them in Show #4 of my own podcast. Area 51 produced quality stuff, my favorite episode being “Heir Check.” I know I had my rant on the extremely short-lived and shoddily-produced Paris Hilton Podcast, but I was an amateur after hearing the boys (and girls) at Team Area 51. Yeeeouch!

It’s a sad day in podcasting, but to echo J.R., we still got Mike, Evo, and the KAMN. There is hope…

  • I agree with previous comments.I’msaddend but not surprised-it always made me wonder how they were able to produce such a “professional” podcast on our podcasting “amateur” budget.

  • That bites. And, yeah, ok, you sold me, at least for now. two little dollars/month will be floating via the sub-etha from me to you from now until whenever. You guys (and Summer, and TD0013 and Mur Laferty’s essays and all the rest) are cool. Here’s to many more podcasts in the future.

    Furry cows moo and decompress.

  • I thought they had lost their edge towards the end. I was a listener from early on, and kept told others that that was one of the good ones.
