Voice of the Republic: Questions about Trooper Discipline – That was pretty bad. I am catching up on shows I haven’t listened to since November and yes it is February. Also, Evo and Michael. You guys should lighten up on Christmas. Weren’t you guys ever little and woke up to all those gifts? the buying is really about the kids.

Shane- excellent to give to charity! But I did mention that you can sell or toss the stuff too. For example, I don’t know anyone who will want the Independence Day space ship toys in my basement. They’ll probably get tossed. I know a scifi fan who is disabled and not very wealthy, and he welcomes donations of books, so he’ll be getting some of my overflows. And ebay is going to get a workout with other stuff after Christmas.

Thanks Mur!! This wasn’t a knock, it’s just that sometimes people get that in their head, and think it’s the righteous thing to do, but don’t access what they’d do in the situation!! I give a ton of stuff to Goodwill and other charities. Collectibles are not among them!!

Shane – I’ll be doing a purge on ebay and Goodwill after the chaos of the holidays. I’ll post pics if you like.

And Daniel, as I said, if comics aren’t collected, then don’t get rid of them. I just know i”m a lot happier collecting The Amazing Spider Man, Usagi Yojimbo and Astro City every few months in tpb format instead of letting the comics pile up.

I listened to Mur’s essay and totally agreed with it…at first. I just can’t abide the liquidation of one’s comic book collection. Not everything has been collected into TPB format and I would argue the more obscure issues are necessary to round out the experience of reading comic books. So you have your Sandman Library, Watchman, Darknight and Maus Hardcover editions stashed neatly on your bookshelf?If you can’t go digging for those shoddy old issues of Bloodshot when you hear Tarantino in making them into a movie, you’ve missed out on a core part of the experience.

I was once a chemistry teacher, but that was many, many beers ago. My recollection is that the splitting of water into its constituents is as easy as hooking up wires to each end of a battery and dunking them in water. No..it doesn’t explode; little bubbles form on the wires (Hydrogen on one, oxygen on the other). Combining two parts hydrogen gas with one part oxygen gas, and adding fire DOES go boom, violently at that, producing water. Hydrogen fuel cells basically do this, but release the energy much more slowly (crushing the hopes of fans of exploding cars).

On an unrelated note, Draco Vista is currently coastr.com’s second favorite place for a beer…just a couple more folks, and it’s number one!

In listening to Mur’s essay, I couldn’t help but think it was partially true, in that at the ripe middle age of 37, I’ve gone through a lot of my stuff over the past few years and have ditched it on Ebay, to either get it out of the house, or make a buck on it. The problem is, I’m still a fanboy, and for everything I sell, I buy twice as much stuff to replace it!! What I want to know is in her sounding like the spokeperson for the world’s charities, what is Mur getting rid of. She reminded me of John Kerry, who told all the Vietnam Veterans to disgard their ribbons and medals, while he held onto his.
