Michael and Evo: Wingin’ It!

In a recent article posted at PC Magazine:

A new research project at MIT’s Media Lab aims to turn every cell phone or PDA carrying member of the public into a podcaster, and every mobile device into a virtual podcasting studio.

My first reaction was predictable. Great. Let’s further lower the bar on audio quality for podcasts by using cell phones as microphones. Then it struck me: You crazy people do this every single week on our voice mail show! You’ve scooped MIT, people! Hooray for our side! The geeks just beat the nerds! I’ve used used three exclamation points in a row! Now four! (This is getting out of hand quickly…)

A little over a year ago, I coined the term “podiobook“. A new term has made it’s way into the language of podcasting courtesy of Steve Eley from Escape Pod, the science fiction podcast magazine which you should all be subscribed to already:

PODSTURBATE (v.)
1. To spend inordinate time and/or energy competing for status on sites that matter primarily to other podcasters.
2. To exhort one’s listeners to visit podcast community sites and perform actions to raise one’s personal status.

PODSTURBATION (n.)
The act of podsturbating.

PODSTURBATION SITE (n.)
A Web site or online community frequented primarily by podcasters, with ranking mechanisms that enable or encourage podsturbation.

When he’s not getting struck by cars, Darryl from Austin finds interesting stories and sends them my way. This time it’s an article from the Press Democrat, relating the story of the Lagunitas Breweing Company’s newest ale: Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale.

Alc. 10.1% by Vol. “This beer,” the ever-colorful [brewery founder Tony] Magee said, “I wanted to be a knuckle sandwich. It’s big, it’s bitter and it’s angry. It’s unrepentant, and it’s unforgiven.”

Oh, you know I’m dying to try this stuff! Even better is the report that the name came from a recent drug bust at a Lagunitas tasting event. According to the report, undercover agents spent 8 weeks hanging out at these tasting parties, looking for pot smokers. Their efforts were finally rewarded with a huge bust resulting in the arrests of… wait for it… two people. Thanks for making our streets just that much safer, officers. I can now visit alternative breweries without being subjected to REEFER MADNESS!

Since the boys seemed to go ga-ga over the quick show of Courtney (or Drunk Mal, as I like to call her) on a recent post, I thought I’d share with you a little someting our very own TD-0013 posted on his site. And yes, you’ll all be in your bunks, I know.
