Live Streaming from Dragon*Con
Okay, here’s the scoop.
We want to stream from Dragon*Con this weekend, specifically “Slice of SciFi” tonight, and “Wingin’ It” tomorrow night.
Problem is, the streaming servers are not up, and I need to change the times when the servers come up. And I don’t have all the server admin email addresses with me.
So, Chris, if you see this, send me an email at kickassmysticninjas.com, and Robin, you too
Otherwise, if someone else out there has a Shoutcast server that we can use for the next 48 hours. It’d really be nice to have it active so we can broadcast all of the podcasting tracks through Monday.
I do not know if the streams are being recorded yet, but I’ll find that out later. First panel is going on right now… and Intro to Podcasting, with Michael, Evo, Joe, Swoopy (mod), Scott Sigler, and me being sysadmin at the end of the table.
update: Live Feed is feeding. If the servers are up and broadcasting, you are all now listening to all the panels of the Podcasting Track at Dragon*Con. You can find a schedule of panels at the Parsec Awards website.
If the servers are up and not feeding, send me an email… we really want to work out the bugs before the live podcast shows tonight and tomorrow night The live schedule is tentatively:
Slice of SciFi: 10pm Eastern Friday night
Voyage of the Dragon Hearth: 4pm Eastern Saturday afternoon
Adventures of Dr Floyd: 8:30pm Eastern Saturday evening
Can’t Stop the Signal: 10pm Eastern Saturday night
Wingin’ It: 11:30pm Eastern Saturday night
update #2 (9/2, 10:30am Eastern): I’m about to head over and find out of Swoopy managed to talk to someone in IT and get a real feed going. Wish me luck!
September 1st, 2006 at 10:57 am
That explains the 20 plus “streaming is now live” emails we have gotten in the last hour
I hope it all gets worked out so we can listen tonight and for Wingin it tomorrow.
September 1st, 2006 at 11:03 am
Not meant to be snarky, I understand the quirks that can happen with the remote setting…
September 1st, 2006 at 11:11 am
Whoops, forgot about that automatic notification feature. Sorry about that!
September 1st, 2006 at 2:00 pm
if the feed is supposed to be working right now… it isn’t
September 1st, 2006 at 2:01 pm
that is to say — it’s up but only freeding pops, clicks, and distant uninteligable buzzing voices
September 1st, 2006 at 4:30 pm
sounds great! so…where’s the link to the feed?
September 1st, 2006 at 6:46 pm
It’s the same feed that we use for Saturday recording at Draco Vista Studios. However, it doesn’t sound like we’re getting consistent sound out.
September 1st, 2006 at 7:12 pm
Just in case Summer or anyone at D*C is checking this: the feed is live but still garbled. I’m getting enough sound to tell that someone is talking, but that’s it. Unless you can fix it, you may want to save your resources and shut it down.
September 2nd, 2006 at 1:16 am
I only got static when I tried it.
September 2nd, 2006 at 8:22 am
I got there too late for the live Slice. Hopefully I’ll mange to meet up with you guys tonight.
I’ll be wearing a blue shirt with skull and cross bones talking about reality and alcohol.
September 2nd, 2006 at 9:56 am
Made it to the live Slice. It was interesting to see the people that go with the voices. I didn’t actually talk to anyone thouqh cuz I was really tired. It was a lot of fun to hear the audience commentary. It’s a shame that there was no trivia; audience participation in that would have been fun.
I’ll be at WI tonight with my six of Terrapin Ale for the hosts and maybe some for me.
I’ll have my new Utilikilt and a black hawaiian shirt with dragons on it.
September 2nd, 2006 at 10:06 am
I hope they get the feed straightened out by then because I know that the best parts of WI won’t make it into the podcast!
September 2nd, 2006 at 12:31 pm
I so wish I could listen to the feed. But I guess I will have to make due with catching the podcast in a few weeks time when I get back to my computer and to something better than dial-up.
September 2nd, 2006 at 12:58 pm
i’ll bring my camera so I can try to catch people in embarrassing fun. Of course, *I* would never have an embarrassing moment.
September 2nd, 2006 at 1:02 pm
In case anyone cares, I bought a print from Rowena and had her autograph it. I got to play Neverwinter Nights 2, bought a Utlikilt, and saw the Dragoncon parade.
My feet hurt.
September 2nd, 2006 at 1:25 pm
Barry, it sounds like you are having a grand ol’ time! Don’t forget to call into the BunkCast with any crazy con moments for my Question of the Week
.
September 2nd, 2006 at 1:38 pm
I don’t think we’re going to have a live feed (I’m heading back over there now), but I know Michael will be recording the live WI tonight. I’m also going to record the live Signal that’s right before ours, just because I want to.
And this morning I discovered bonus suckage: there was a B5 Music Video show last night at 11:30pm, that lasted 2+ hours. I missed it hanging out at the Farpoint Media party. But hey, Dean Haglund accepted my invite and dropped by, so it wasn’t all bad
I think we’re going to make some efforts to make sure that outbound traffic works for next year’s gathering.
September 2nd, 2006 at 1:55 pm
No feed? That’s too bad. So much for long-distance partying!
September 2nd, 2006 at 2:31 pm
Well, I did meet up with Joe, Sarah from Charleston, the Balticon/ADD Cast people, and Christina from Nina Kimberly. All cool people. I’m going to miss the awards cuz I have to go to a birthday dinner party for my wife, but will be back for the live WI. I’ll probably be dressed from dinner, so I’ll definitely look out of place. Look for the orange shirt.
Cya’ll later.
PS: Where do I find the lanyards????
September 2nd, 2006 at 3:20 pm
*sniff* I haven’t met up with anyone.
Okay, so I’ve been on the go to much to stop and socialize, I guess, so I have only myself to blame.
But I don’t want to get out of here without meeting any of you.
September 2nd, 2006 at 5:45 pm
Lanyards seem to have been “bring your own damned lanyards”.
Fortunately, Kevin Bachelder from the Signal and the ScapeCast got me a Browncoats one, so I’m set for the next few dozen cons.
I also bought a t-shirt that says “Ninja, Please! Don’t make me bust a shuriken in your ass!”, and Joe’s jealous so he’s going to copy me and get one too. Tee Morris wants to get the “Pirates are Better than Ninjas” shirt, so someone has to go get the “Ninjas are Better than Pirates” shirt to counterbalance him.
Barry, come to the live Wingin’ It, and meet us all. Most of the panel and attendees will be drunk, so you’ll feel right at home
September 2nd, 2006 at 5:50 pm
neather feed is not working. What’s going on!!! it’s now 8:49 and in Singal start in 10 min. what’s going on?????
September 2nd, 2006 at 6:08 pm
It’s know 9:06 where the feed?
September 2nd, 2006 at 6:27 pm
I’m confused and I’m tired and I’m coming down from a caffine high – is there going to be a live feed or not?
September 2nd, 2006 at 6:28 pm
The Signal starts at 10pm Eastern, with Wingin’ It starts at 11:30pm.
I’m still not sure if we’ll have a feed or not. I’m off to the party to get a beer or two!
September 2nd, 2006 at 7:07 pm
So where’s the feed guys???? it’s 10: 07
September 2nd, 2006 at 8:00 pm
11:00 guys where’s the feed??? Show starts in a 1/2 hour
September 2nd, 2006 at 8:03 pm
‘K, I’m gonna take this silence as a loud resounding ‘no’.
September 2nd, 2006 at 8:17 pm
podcast only this week it seems
September 2nd, 2006 at 8:17 pm
you never know. It could come on right at 11:30 or just before. it happens all the time.
September 2nd, 2006 at 8:41 pm
Bummer. For perhaps the second time ever the stars align and I’m online at the time the feed is supposed to go out, and again it’s not happening. Last time they weren’t recording an episode and forgot to tell everyone. And now…
I think I’m a jinx. That’s not necessarily a bad thing – I could use my powers for good by auditioning for Big Brother. With any luck the House will catch fire and Australia will never be subjected to it again.
September 2nd, 2006 at 8:46 pm
The feed is up but is sound bad. What going on?
September 2nd, 2006 at 8:47 pm
The feed is up but is sound bad. What going on? is getting better… I thing there still working on it.
September 2nd, 2006 at 8:55 pm
Strike my last: all is well
September 2nd, 2006 at 9:01 pm
This episode will make the pool party look like the ‘happy beer’ episode
September 2nd, 2006 at 9:07 pm
I’m getting the feed now. Although I don’t recognize any voices, it sounds like their having fun.
September 3rd, 2006 at 2:04 am
That was freaking awesome, Mur’s contribution in particular.
September 3rd, 2006 at 6:49 am
Glad you guys enjoyed it. There should be more content going out on the feed today, but it’ll all be podcasting panels. Check the Sunday topics over at Podcasting:Now and Beyond.
Did I mention that I got a copy of George Hrab’s newest CD, with him on the cover naked? Did I mention that he signed it for me?
Yes, that’s the guy y’all heard playing music during the show. He rocks. He’s Jonathan Coulton good.
September 3rd, 2006 at 7:26 am
George was hysterical, especially his visual accompanyment to Mur’s essay. Hawsome. Hawwwwwwwwsome. I’m really glad I got to meet a bunch of you guys!
September 3rd, 2006 at 4:39 pm
That was a lot of fun! We kept going long after the show was over.
I’m going to make my wife listen to the show when it comes out.
And I got a signed bottle opener! *yea!*
I need to leave a voice mail.
September 3rd, 2006 at 10:42 pm
Krap!
Seems I missed a bunch of coolness.
Stoopid life….
September 4th, 2006 at 12:27 pm
HEADACHE!!!!
OUCH!!!
September 4th, 2006 at 3:24 pm
Holy cow, what a party that was…. including the party AFTER the show… We missed most of the panels on Sunday. I guess we’re lightweights.
September 4th, 2006 at 7:31 pm
Oh…two days later and I am still recovering from both being a part of the live studio audience and the after the show party.
Unlike some people who I will not name… (Clair) I didn’t miss the next day of panels. I don’t really remember much about them because after only two hours of sleep between the after party and the 10 am panel I took the phrase hair of the dog a little too literally but I know they were great!
Enjoyed meeting everyone from this years podcasting track and partaking in your milk and apple juice!
September 4th, 2006 at 8:19 pm
Ian, did you find your badge or did you have to get a new one?
September 5th, 2006 at 9:21 am
so someone has to go get the “Ninjas are Better than Pirates shirt to counterbalance him.
Actually, I got the Yin-Yarr pirates+ninja yin-yang mashup shirt. I bring balance to the force.
September 5th, 2006 at 9:31 am
Oooh, a Yin-Yarr shirt? I missed seeing this one at the con.
Ian, I’ll bet you had a headache.
I woke up at 9:30, missed breakfast, but got out of there by checkout time. I hung around for a few more hours and headed back to Athens.
A good time; let’s do it again next year.
September 5th, 2006 at 9:47 am
Hey all,
Had a grand time meeting you and listening to the feed. Was glad to be able to bring you Ian live and as soon as I can I’ll get the pictures to you that I have. Will be calling soon. Don’t forget to let me know for next year what beers you want…and I’ll get to brewing.
Summer, I still can’t get over how my daughter didn’t want anything to do with me or Ian when she met you. Talk about cosmic Karma. Can’t wait to see ya’ll next year.
September 5th, 2006 at 10:15 am
Ditto – No, I couldn’t find my badge at all, need to go buy a pass for the Monday and it only cost me $30 rather than the full price membership of $85
Planning for next year already and it has only just ended
September 5th, 2006 at 10:18 am
Ian, that just sucks. But I’m glad to see you had a great time.
Here’s a link to the Yin-Yarr shirt:

September 5th, 2006 at 10:19 am
I also had to buy the 1337 eye chart shirt:

September 5th, 2006 at 10:33 am
Its cool Ditto, quick question was it you who gave me your Cell number to phone you on the Sunday about the pass, if so the number didn’t want to work at all, don’t know why
You know what, I didn’t mind spending the cash because you know what, I felt that our group was strong enough that I could spend the cash just so we could all hang out.
Just the chance to meet Michael, Evo, Joe, Summer, Tee, Scott Sigler, Sarah from Charleston, Barry, yourself and even some of the Parsec Award Nominees was a pleasure in itself and something I wouldn’t think twice of doing if it happened in the future
September 5th, 2006 at 12:06 pm
Ian, totally agree. Next year I will totally have to get a suite onsite and hang out more.
September 5th, 2006 at 6:02 pm
I gave you the number, Ian. Maybe I wrote it wrong or illegibly. I had had a bit of the apple juice myself that night.
It was definitely nice to have a room onsite, Ditto. I couldn’t have afforded a suite. But the Hilton had a nice executive lounge that served breakfast and an evening manager’s special that served for dinner.
Need to organize something at Trader Vic’s next year; I kept eyeing the ads in the elevators for the mai tai’s. We can all sing Werewolf of London, have someone with an iRiver record it and send it in as a voicemail.
September 5th, 2006 at 7:54 pm
Awesome idea, Barry.
September 5th, 2006 at 9:09 pm
>>>Just the chance to meet Michael, Evo, Joe, Summer, Tee, Scott Sigler, >>>Sarah from Charleston, Barry, yourself and even some of the Parsec >>>Award Nominees was a pleasure in itself and something I wouldn’t think twice of doing if it happened in the future
LOL….gee thanks Ian! What were Christina and I then?
