Wingin’ It #75: Live from Dragon*Con 2006
WE ARE LIVE FROM DRAGON*CON!!!!!
On the Panel: Evo, Mike, Joe, Mike’s wife, Michael A. Stackpole, Patrick McLean, Ian from Cleveland, Sheila, Summer, and Mur Lafferty. Tee’s on the wireless mic.
First Drink of the Day: Multitude of alcohol smuggled in by Scott Sigler and the Pickle Man. Also some micro brew by Shannon Hinters Hinners.
- Also on the show:
- The coolest mother fucker in the world, George Hrab, jumps up on the table like a Coyote Ugly bargirl and plays us some Cruel Spines. He’s got a CD. He’s naked on the cover.
- George Hrab vs. Jonathan Coultan death match!
- Sheila is just a little bit drunk, if you haven’t noticed.
- Thanks to our directors and moderators, Derek and Swoopy.
- Scott Sigler defends his bad taste in beer.
- Mur reads to us the hands down, no lie, best fuckin’ essay EVAR! Seriously, I’m not even going to tell you the title, as I don’t want to spoil anything for when you hear it. God, I love this woman.
- Chaz from DC congratulates Mur on her essay.
- Derek from skepticality has a question for the guys.
- An audience member wants a lesson on finding the clit, so Mur and George demonstrate with a jacket and a musician’s bald head. Not so funny in audio, but goddamn, to be there.
- A woman asks Mur on how to raise a geek neice.
- Chad Walker gave us some beer made by monks.
- Another song by George Hrab: B3. Check him out at the Podsafe Music Network.
If you can’t tell, that was a whole lot-o-fun.

It was a blast guys! Seee y’all there next year!
September 6th, 2006 at 3:23 am
Calling a podcast “live” is about as intelligent as wearing meatpants and a balogna buttplug in a tiger cage. Why don’t you stupid fucks, and by that I mean all the overly-enamored-with-radio-conventions podcasting twits, call it “on location?” IT’S NOT LIVE, IT’S A FUCKING RECORDING…
Evo says: Wrong, dickhead. For the 150+ people in the audience (plus the multitude getting it from the live feed), they got to experience this one very live. Or do you also bitch at bands who produce “live” albums? So why don’t you, you stupid fuck, figure out that the world revolves around me and not you, and pull the rancid lunch meat out of your anus, huh? It’s causing you to hallucinate things like thinking Dragon*Con is a radio convention. Did I mention “stupid fuck”?
September 6th, 2006 at 3:42 am
Because live also implies unedited?
More importantly, where are the pictures?
September 6th, 2006 at 4:03 am
For many of us, it was most certainly live, and man, what a fantastic time! Mike, Evo and everyone else, it was awesome to meet you and party with you. Thanks for making Dragon*Con 2006 such an awesome experience!
September 6th, 2006 at 4:51 am
Spork, why are you still here if you hate everything about this show? After 75 shows, do you not yet understand that the definition of “wingin it” for Mike and Evo is “We don’t give a shit, we’re going to do whatever the fuck we want whenever we want to do it?”
September 6th, 2006 at 4:52 am
Oh, and by the way…in case you didn’t see the previous post on the Blog, the WERE live. They streamed it out to the net, thus making it a live webcast.
September 6th, 2006 at 5:07 am
So, did Mur going into hiding after she sobered up?
September 6th, 2006 at 5:28 am
I’ve added an entry for this episode on the Wikipedia entry for Wingin’ It!. Anyone who was there and can add more detail to the entry, please jump in and update it.

Say What? Mur Drunk??? I GOTTA hear This!!!!
September 6th, 2006 at 5:48 am
Yes, you do. This will be an episode long remembered - though some will surely try to forget
September 6th, 2006 at 6:09 am
I will never try to forget it …. way fun… totally fun… I was there…
I hugged a naked George Hrab, (and grabbed his ass at his request) at the after party….
no way, i wont forget..
good times, good times….
September 6th, 2006 at 6:10 am
Spork - I think after your last little outburst that you wouldn’t show your ugly face around here again but I guess you can’t help but get hit on, because people are going to make a mess of you for that alone. It was nice known you
Joe - You spelt Shannan’s second name wrong, its Hinners not Hinters
What a show, if I so myself. Can’t wait for next year’s
September 6th, 2006 at 6:11 am
Oh no, if you were there live (and I was), this was something you will never, ever, forget.

September 6th, 2006 at 6:14 am
I uploaded the few I was able to take. Once thoroughly saturated with alcohol, even the point’n’shoot camera was difficult to operate.
September 6th, 2006 at 6:14 am
Good lord, am I still drunk? Here’s the link.

September 6th, 2006 at 6:25 am
Excellent!
My God, that one of George is funny! I can only imagine what it must’ve been like to have been there.
September 6th, 2006 at 7:07 am
Wow, this show was absolutely amazing. I was there, and then had a chance to listen to the live recording at work. The recording does a great job of capturing the feeling of being there, except for the beer.
Fine work all, and nice to meet so many of you.

ummm first drink of that day? Sounds like some of you were on #10
September 6th, 2006 at 8:17 am
Mur I fucking love you
More clit baby, more clit
September 6th, 2006 at 8:27 am
Mur?
Will you marry me?
September 6th, 2006 at 8:29 am
Ya bahstard, dat’s noot a wedgie!
September 6th, 2006 at 8:30 am
Andrea, it is true that “first drink of the day” was a misnomer for many there.
Wasn’t there a video? Could it be made available for download? A lot of my pics came out blurry (go figure!) and I’d love to be able to have the video for blackmail, er, posterity.
It was an absolutely grand time and I just wish it was happening like that every weekend. Except my liver would abandon me and take up residence everywhere.
September 6th, 2006 at 8:34 am
The recording turned out awesome. Much better than last year, I think.
September 6th, 2006 at 8:39 am
Spork…if you want to make sure we “get it right” I got this great idea: Get your ass to Dragon*Con 2007. If you make the effort as Ian did…and as Summer did…and as Joe did…then maybe you can nit-pick. Until then, suck the phuk up.
As far as the experience is concerned…pictures are coming! Hang tight! I’m posting soon…
September 6th, 2006 at 8:40 am
you geeks
September 6th, 2006 at 8:40 am
Spork is just feeling conflicted. He can’t decide if he’s a fork or a spoon.

September 6th, 2006 at 8:51 am
ditto.. so fucking true that was awesome.
September 6th, 2006 at 8:57 am
Leme tell ya….those of you who didn’t make it to Dragon*Con…..missed one hell of a show!
September 6th, 2006 at 9:05 am
Awesome show guys! Wish I could have been there. DC’07 looks dicey, but DC ‘08 is a strong possibility.
September 6th, 2006 at 9:19 am
Yes, well beyond the first drink of the day… beyond the first drink of the hour even.
September 6th, 2006 at 9:29 am
Geez, looks like I’m going to have to seriously look into DC07. I’ve never been to anything remotely like it and it looks like an event not to be missed.
September 6th, 2006 at 10:15 am
Man, that was the only panel that I attended that I wasn’t on. And it was an absolute blast. And to Tee, thanks for trusting in me having that mic for a minute.
September 6th, 2006 at 10:40 am
Wow! I wish I was at DragonCon….hopefully next year.
Mur, you’re the best!!! We need more clits! =)

I want a new Show:
G.L.O.W.: Gorgeous Ladies Of Wingin’it!
Bringing the Clit to the masses!
September 6th, 2006 at 10:56 am
Yes, the Arnold was awesome!
September 6th, 2006 at 11:09 am
What a great night it was. Mur is the Queen of Essay, George Hrab is my new hero (and has quite the ass to boot, ladies… and gentlemen too, if you’re into that sort of thing).
Mike and Evo, I just wanted to also thank you guys for a great weekend. Anyone that has doubts that podcasters aren’t the best people in the world weren’t in Atlanta, GA this past weekend. You guys ROCK!!
I’ve got lots of video (digital camera video, so not the best) and pictures but it will be a few days before they go up on my blog. I’ll post when they’re up.
September 6th, 2006 at 11:11 am
Yes,
This was THE event of the con. I got a ton of comments from people that didn’t make it and the Winging It was legendary and many people said they were pissed they didn’t make it to our Podcasting room for that!
The audio sounds pretty much like it was to be there, it WAS that crazy there!
George Hrab and Phil Plait told be before they left that due to this event they are planning to come back again next year JUST because of this Winging It!
Great, great, time, best I have had at Dragon*Con in years…
September 6th, 2006 at 11:14 am
Derek it was great meeting you guys!
September 6th, 2006 at 11:14 am
And the question is, what will end up on http://www.kiltwedgie.com?
September 6th, 2006 at 12:04 pm
Hmmm…
What to do when you get a kilt wedgie?
What material is better for a wedgie: leather or cotton?
How to look nonchalant when removing a wedgie?
Kilt Wedgie Hall Of Fame
And much, much more…
September 6th, 2006 at 12:32 pm

i was sitting in the front row!!
um….somoeone kicked over my beer!!
uuuhhh … err.. I um…

Should be massive fun.
September 6th, 2006 at 1:25 pm
hawsome
September 6th, 2006 at 2:27 pm
I’m still kinda wondering what a kilt wedgie actually looks like. An entire website devoted to kilt wedgies will definately be interesting.
September 6th, 2006 at 2:35 pm
Just wounderful! I was listening while Painting this weekend and had to stop because I was laughing SO hard That My Realist painting …..well lets just say after the Sacramento Mounds comment … it had to be turned into an IMpressionist (laughing causes the steady hand to stray …..SPLAT )
September 6th, 2006 at 3:06 pm
Hey, what happened to the brilliant definition of the word “parsec”? Wow, that guy was great. What was his name again…?
Evo says: - We pulled that jewel out and are using it for a segment in show #76. In all honesty, it was too damned smart for that night. Probably too damned smart for any show, come to think of it. But we could all use a little more smarts…

September 6th, 2006 at 5:11 pm
Ditto, you know you need a kilt so you can find out about kilt wedgies.
Phil, you gave a better explanation of a parsec than I could have, that’s for sure.
September 6th, 2006 at 5:15 pm

[...] This is a must listen. [...]
September 6th, 2006 at 6:56 pm
Hey Phil, don’t worry. I saved it off and we are going to use it on this week’s Wingin’ It! The audio did not have any introduction or explaination of what you were talking about. (It was confusing without a lead-in)
So, you get your own segment on the show this week.
As for Kilt Wedgie… I’m sure we’ll have some picts, but as to what else we do… ??
September 6th, 2006 at 8:44 pm
Picts? Aren’t those people with blue faces.
September 6th, 2006 at 8:48 pm
So long as I don’t appear on there, Michael *angry growl*
Well, maybe if you eventually just turn it into a “Men of Wingin’ It in Kilts” site, then I’ll be fine with appearing on it.
September 6th, 2006 at 8:48 pm
Wow! What an awesome night that was! Not least because I got to be a human mic stand for super-funny, super-hot Hrab! Plus, the “apple juice” was top notch and not a “blueberry” to be found!
September 6th, 2006 at 9:34 pm
I had my two friends with me that had never listen to any podcast, what a first taste of the madness.
September 7th, 2006 at 1:27 am
OMG!!!
Pictures!!!
I look a mess and for everyone’s information the reason why I look shot to pieces is because I was already pissed drunk before the show and then Sheila & me spent 45mins talking round three fricking hotels since they shut the Gerbil Tubes between them
DAMNIT!!!
But I will be back for more next year, guaranteed
September 7th, 2006 at 7:53 am
Okay. I must come out of hiding to say this is audio brilliance.
September 7th, 2006 at 8:00 am
This is my second wingin’ episode. I don’t know if I can listen to any more. This was so great, I don’t think it can be topped.
Keep it up.
September 7th, 2006 at 8:59 am
wow.
I know that seems like an understatement or this episode but I can’t think of anything that wouldn’t bean understatement so I shall surrender and just say “wow”.
I MUST find a way to get there next year. MUST!
BTW: Mur, I have been a BIG fan of the clit ever since I attended my first LIVE performance.
Now some of you may say I’m just paying “lip service” to the clit but trust me, if it is making an appearance anywhere in my area I AM SOOO THERE!!!!
I for one, hope you will continue to push the clit on Winging It!!
September 7th, 2006 at 11:14 am
Great time! I’ve got some photos of the event on Flickr:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/27446582@N00/sets/72157594273363509/
After George Hrab’s visual aids to accompany Mur’s essay I’ll never be able to look at a sport coat again the same way.
Go KiltWedgie!
Les
September 7th, 2006 at 12:27 pm
lmfao. I just saw that Evo added an editorial comment to Spork’s comment. Hawsome.
September 7th, 2006 at 12:33 pm
Wonder if this will work…
Yes it does. Now push the shiny button!
September 7th, 2006 at 3:33 pm
Evo, man my hat’s off to you….way to tell it to Spork! Remind me the next time a see ya that I owe you a beer!
September 7th, 2006 at 4:15 pm
Evo! You rule!!!!!! kickhisass!!!!!
September 7th, 2006 at 4:54 pm
WOW! Too much fun! I nearly got kicked out of work because I was laughting too much! I want vidio!!!!!!
I have got to be there next year and I’ll bring lots of beer! Mur you ROCK!!!
September 7th, 2006 at 6:20 pm
Good show guys.
Wow - tee gets really involved - doesn’t he ?
What a great essay by Mur.

September 8th, 2006 at 12:39 am
Wow good deal of fun. george hrab, what a pisser.
Did I just say that?
September 8th, 2006 at 12:51 am
Was this Mur’s time-shifted response to crazy Tom Cruise’s TJ Mackey character in Magnolia?
You know, the “RESPECT HE COCK” guy?
September 8th, 2006 at 2:05 am
Ah a classic show. Mur’s essay rocked and, well, I wish I had been there.
September 8th, 2006 at 8:33 am
I’m glad everyone had fun and enjoyed my beers…I’ll have more next year for sure.
Oh and thanks Ian for correcting that. I was going to do that anyway. It was great meeting all of you for sure and I can’t wait until next year. No kids…we’ll be there the whole weekend…can’t wait.
September 8th, 2006 at 12:01 pm
Holy Fucking Shit. Best Wingin’It Ever (although closely followed by the Pool Party). Mur, between this essay and Heaven…whoever said you were a “wannabe” writer? You ROCK!!!
WE WANT VIDEO!!! WE WANT VIDEO!!! WE WANT VIDEO!!!
September 8th, 2006 at 1:08 pm
It sounds like a good time was had by all. Mighty Mur was in rare form, if the recording is any indication. I can’t wait until I leave work and get to my house where the internet flows free so I can check out some of the pictures.
September 8th, 2006 at 1:35 pm
I gotta say, Evo, it was weird to here that Shannon (yes, I misspelled that on purpose) from Warner Robins sent home brew. I’m Shannon from Warner Robins, and I haven’t gotten into home brewing yet. Yet is the key word. By the way, Shannan, if you want to meet another Shannon in town, give me a shout!
September 8th, 2006 at 2:42 pm
How freaking weird is that?
Did I meet the right one last year? :p
What a min f*** that would be
September 8th, 2006 at 4:16 pm

Shit! I wish I coulda make this podcast. Too damned much fun!
September 15th, 2006 at 1:15 pm
Evo, you unfathomably stupid sack of horse cum…
Radio conventions was referring to the podcaster’s love of the conventions, meaning practices, of radio. The very medium from which you and Michael were cast and down into this gutter of “multi-media” that is podcasting, radio’s younger, dumber cousin with a lisp and far too many ‘umms’.
As for removing things from anuses, I’m pleased that you are no longer shilling that shitty CBS DVD box set any more. How about getting your ineffective ass back on the calendar, or coasters, or click grid promotion, or fund raising auctions, or contests for books from the library, etc.? You stupid fucking lazy shitcock. Go get drunk and call people faggots you mighty, mighty man.
September 16th, 2006 at 6:55 pm
Listen here you inebriated horse shit
For once in your retarded life cycle, why don’t you shut the hole in your face and get the fuck out of here before I kick your tiny excuse for a head into the next parallel dimension where you can swear off to anyone and everyone you like (Most likely because you will have talked them all the death previously)
If you cannot appreciate the work that these two geniuses do week in, week out, then get the fuck outta here.
I didn’t mind your stupid fucking comments about the Fan Show since I don’t have the equipment that Mike does (not that your comments affected me in anyway). But if your going to stand there and belittle a group which traveled 2000 miles to do a show with a limited setup and a group of fans, shut your fucking pie hole
No one agrees with you and I don’t anyone will. With every stupid fucking comment like that, your only opening yourself up to have your ass handed to you and the quicker that Evo bans your pathetic ass from here
GOOD ‘FUCKING’ NIGHT!!!!
