Wingin’ It #77: Evo, I’d like to introduce you to Gloria
On today’s show: Mike, Evo, Joe, Summer (who’s not here), Kris the Cheesecake Lady, Charlie, and Debbie from East Mesa.
First Drink of the Day: Boont Amber Ale, Maximus IPA, and a buncha shit that I can’t spell.
- And now for the show:
- Evo discovers an NPA.
- Chris the Cheeseckae Lady makes an LSD laced (Evo believes) bread that is to die for.
- We have a list of classic episodes of Wingin’ It. Tell your friends! Hook ‘em while they’re young.
- Scifi Poetry Slam: Paradox by Robert G. Parent
- Starbucks coffees - how healthy are they?
- High school football, woohoo!
- Birmingham Educational’s My Body Software: Can you guess what part of the body they’re going to talk about? I got an idea. I think that from now on, we should just refer to that part of the body as the “mur.” So, this episode of BEMBS is about Karen’s mur. I got another idea. The part of the male anatomy should be referred to as the “evo.”
- A Haiku Moment
- Into sex? Check out the bonobo and college coeds. (And, while you’re at it, check out Robert J. Sawyer’s The Neanderthal Parallax books.)
- Then we go into a discussion of “Why do WOMEN lie about sex?”
- Evo opens mouth and so fuckin’ inserts foot. Gloria Steinem… “Who’s she?”
- A bunch of people born in the ’60s and ’70s reminisce about the ’50s.
- Charlie finally mentions the mur.
- More Gloria talk.
- Rebeer: Raison D’Etre by Dogfish Head
- Reverse graffiti, artistic expression, or corporate shit?
- We need kiltwedgie pics for kiltwedgie.com
- All 23,500 Segways have been recalled. There are only 23,500 Segways?

September 20th, 2006 at 10:45 am
Thats bullshit.. women think about sex all the time
September 20th, 2006 at 10:48 am
Hey now… women dont lie anymore than men….
We lie about sex because we are so fucking puritanical.. its soooooo stupid.
We prefer our violence to sex. We would rather watch a girl getting her head torn off than being loved.
September 20th, 2006 at 10:50 am
You guys may not have noticed but I have no problems expressing my sexuality.. women who want sex are considered whores and men are not. Im sorry but the men help provoke that.
September 20th, 2006 at 10:55 am
Yeah that is kind of true.. about the 50s…. also the white mans view of women is soooo differnt than men of other races. If you date a man of another race he will treat you soo differently than a white man- everything is different. Not better but different. We have lived under the white mans view on sex for a very long time.

This is a scary thread…..maybe if I listen to the show and then come back.
September 20th, 2006 at 12:55 pm
Wow! What’d you guys talk about that pissed of Andrea so much? I guess I need to listen. BTW, wouldn’t the world be a better place if women thought about sex more?
September 20th, 2006 at 1:29 pm
Rhettro, based on the conversation on the show, I think the consensus answer is: the world would be a better place if women had societal sanction to act on all the sex that they are already thinking about.
September 20th, 2006 at 1:37 pm
Oh so eloquently put Charlie… all that *and* you know stuff about beer!
September 20th, 2006 at 1:41 pm
[serious] I wasn’t angry I was just commenting on the show. i agree women are just as sexual as men, we are all of the same animal. So why is it that society has us thinking we are not supposed to be sexual? We actually enjoy sex more than you guys.. we can orgasm in multiple ways or levels and times. [/serious]
September 20th, 2006 at 1:41 pm
Right on!
September 20th, 2006 at 1:43 pm
Yes!!! Yay chlorofor….
Er…
Yay sex for women!!!!

The Mogollon beer is their Superstition Pale ale put under nitro, I had a chat with the brewer a couple weeks ago and he mentioned to me he was going to do it. He is also going to make a smoked rye ale soon as well.
September 20th, 2006 at 2:50 pm
Having just listened to Karen’s nice segment, I take it that a woman’s reproductive system is like a vessel, for sea men.
September 20th, 2006 at 2:54 pm
Gang, I need your opinions. I want to really take this topic to a whole new level on the show. I tell you seriously, it is one of my biggest pet peeves that women are so demonized in the world’s culture.
The whole Equality Now charity that was a big part of the Serenity screening. (You know, Joss’s favorite charity.) That is also my favorite cause. The first time I heard of women having their pussies stitched up and there clits being cut off, I was horrified. Well….. I won’t get into it here, but I would like to know if you would like to hear more about it, and if you feel it is following the new direction given by Mur. (More Clit, Yeah!)
Sorry to get so serious, I now return you to your regular humor.
September 20th, 2006 at 2:54 pm
Oh cmon Charlie…. youve seen worse…
September 20th, 2006 at 3:26 pm
Well Mike, Wingin’ It is your show, so do with it what you will. WI has approached serious subjects on occation, so I don’t think a segment would be out of place, especially if you followed up with links to sites that offered more in depth information.
September 20th, 2006 at 6:42 pm
Mike I am in complete agreement with you.. the way women are treated all over this planet is deplorable. Every country has its issues, some worse than others. But in no place on this planet are women equal to men.. nor are womens issues and needs ever considered as important as a mans. The animal kingdom has more respect for its women.
I’d support whatever you wanted to do
September 20th, 2006 at 6:49 pm
Is it possible for one to be serious when referring to the atrocity of female genital mutilation as “having their pussies stitched up and there [sic] clicks being cut off”? If a serious conversation is called for, it stands to reason that proper nomenclature is also required.
Be that as it may, you are talking about bringing an incredibly heavy topic to the show. The same show where we make dick jokes, I belch a lot and nothing is sacred or revered. I strive to make the show funny, and I never planned on my question about “why do women lie about sex” to spiral somehow into a conversation of racial inequality.
To me, Mur’s request for more fallo- (as in fallopian tube) centric humor and specifically clit jokes is not the same as a discussion of the horrors of FGM. At least, that’s my take on things.
September 20th, 2006 at 7:55 pm
My two pesos:
I fear I must echo the sentiment of Evo “Clitty Litter” Terra. The absurdity of the human condition has a dark side that goes as deep as you want it to. While WI is fueled (from time to time) with topical humor, we can acknowledge that the show got a little 11-year-old-male, mock ourselves for it, and channel our inner 11-year-old females in response without it becoming an “issue” podcast. Righteousness, self- or otherwise, just plain isn’t funny.
So Mike, I think you need to start another podcast on this serious issue. Cause, like, you don’t have enough podcasts or anything…
September 20th, 2006 at 8:16 pm
Good point Evo and Charlie, good point.. There is a time and a place for everything and right now is the time and the place for me to go make another drink
September 21st, 2006 at 7:15 am
Humor can entertain as well as inform. I’m not talking about turning this into an issues show. I’m not putting together a inquiry panel on the nature of human atrocities around the world. I’m looking for some open and fun conversation in the same vein that we always approach topics like this. The show has always tackled big issues with light humor, but serious undertones. Case in point, sexual freedoms, drinking responsibly, religious freedoms, cencorship, etc. (You didn’t know you were learning stuff, did ya?)
As always, there will be an air of humor involved, but I feel the topic is worth bringing up.
September 21st, 2006 at 7:37 am
Well, Michael, you can always bring it up however you want. You guys work without a script *heh* so you could throw out some off the cuff commentary anytime you want.
Heinlein might have had the right idea when he said women shouldn’t work toward being equal to men; it would just lower them.
September 21st, 2006 at 7:39 am
Humor can entertain as well as inform.
Couldn’t agree more. We are behind you guys no matter what direction you take the show.
September 21st, 2006 at 8:03 am
Mike, the US has *always* been puritanical. Europe, and Canada for that matter, are a lot less uptight.
September 21st, 2006 at 10:05 am
I second Evo und Charile (so..third?)
I understand the importance of this topic Mike… but honestly, I have enough strife and pain in life.. I listen to WI! to escape for and hour or so. Id much prefer to listen, laugh, and mentally jack off like Im used to.
I just dont think this specific show is the place to bring up heavy topics and talk seriously bout em… and no… I really dont think about the serious undertones you guys are “tackling”… I just hear the pussy and disk jokes on the surface.. and THATS why I listen.
But hey… like Im gonna stop listening if you choose to go in another direction…
September 21st, 2006 at 12:14 pm
I’ll forth what the other guys are saying about having a heavy topic bring down the show, because what Alvie says is true about the escapism part. However, I do remember seeing Kathy Griffon talk about her trip to the Middle East and the culture shock she experienced. She touched on the FGM issue, and had a sort of WTF joke about it. On reflection this seems more like the domain of a women commedian to talk about it if at all. So you just need to get Kathy Griffon on WI. LOL
As far as Mur’s point on more clit on WI, I think she meant sexual humor from a women’s prespective, and I say that would be refreshing.
September 21st, 2006 at 12:15 pm
And disk jokes can be pretty damn solid, especially when it comes to a 3 and 1/4 and a 5 and 1/4 - one is hard, one is soft - yet they’re both called floppy? Wrap your head around that one.
September 21st, 2006 at 1:32 pm
If you are going to open that door, I gots some “liberal propaganda” to spew!
Just kidding, I agree its an important issue, but it may bring down the levity. I suggest maybe mentioning it on the colateral Wingin’ It materials i.e. website with links or whatnot. That way you can say “For more info on NOW sans the dick jokes, see our site.”
September 21st, 2006 at 1:54 pm

September 22nd, 2006 at 11:45 am
Is that Phil Rossi??
For better or worse, the new WI! seems to have garnered this image as a lowbrow party. . . I can’t imagine I’d bring up horrific genital mutilations to the guy in the toga sucking beer through a funnel. . .
But Mike, the show is also your free-form outlet. And it’s your show. I think if you have something on your mind, then you should say it. That topic wouldn’t exactly fit on Slice of Sci-Fi (or at least, I have yet to read the related story). If I’m present at the studio and you bring it up onpod, then I’ll treat the subject with the appropriate respect.
Although I’ll still poke fun if you refer to soda as “pop”.
September 22nd, 2006 at 12:21 pm
As the guy who brought up the kilt+thong possibility, I feel compelled to point out that anyone who thinks there are only female thong undies is a wee misinformed. Just sayin’.
Michael, if you want to do a serious “Deep Thought of the Week sort of segment in WI! I’d not think ill of you for it.
Mark
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:34 pm
But if you record it while wearing a thong…..
And yes, Jack Mangan, it is Phil Rossi
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:07 pm
Phil wha who now?
Oh yeah! Phil “Make Fun of Alvie’s Typing Ability” Rossi
September 22nd, 2006 at 9:54 pm
Geez - I have not so much heavy talk on these threads since Mike told how he marinated and basted his meat for the Pool Party !
mmmm… meat injector !!!!

Eleven year old girlie humor mainly revolves around WTF is up with the fascination with our boobies.
Despite the deeply horrific fact that the female side of our society has been buried and villified as evil by the present day religions, women are and have been exploring their own sexuality for a long time. Yes, we can have multiple orgasms, and isn’t that the whole reason for Clit Envy? Face it, boys, our clits have more stamina than Long John Silver, and can bump fuzzies better than Ron Jeremy. You’re just jealous and THAT’s the basis for most of the women haters out there. Now, come over here and tell Mommy all about it…..
September 23rd, 2006 at 4:12 pm
Karen - you reign supreme.
September 24th, 2006 at 11:21 pm
I am with Evo and Charlie on this issue. However, the idea of low brow-ness on WI is interesting espcially as I have noticed that quite a few of the listners are not what one would normally think of as “low brow thinkers”. This tells me a lot. As a group as much as we can and indeed do, gravatate to the higher ideals, we can still just sit back and relax with the interesting ideas of WI whether it be good fun or philosophy.
September 25th, 2006 at 7:43 am
Mike, you’re preaching to the choir here. I don’t think anyone listening to your podcast believes any genital mutilation is acceptable. Except the occasional piercing or two. Bringing it up with this crowd would be a waste of energy best focused elsewhere.
Sorry dude.
September 25th, 2006 at 8:08 am
Reverend Mike - you go where the beer leads you… and if it leads you to discuss the horrors of FGM, then by all means go! It’s your show, and your choice - and we can choose to listen or not.
My wife is a doula, and studying to become a midwife - and while it’s not as horriffic as FMG, you’d be surprised at how the concept of birth has been subverted and perverted by our patriarchal society.

Hey, thinks for playing our Saxe Ball Deoderant “promo”. For what it’s worth, the address for our site is:

I just thought I’d mention it since it isn’t listed or linked in the show notes. I’m hoping to have some content to send you in the next week or two. I think you’ll like it. Don’t want to say more than that right now, but I thought I would give you fair warning.
Well, I need to go … There are a couple of the classic episodes that I haven’t listened to yet …
