Wingin’ It #83: Are You From the Past?
This week we have Mike, Evo, Jack, and Kris the Cheesecake Lady.
First Drink of the Day: Eamon from England sent us some beer through Liquorama. Samuel Smith’s India Ale, Young’s Special London Ale, Samual Smith’s Oatmeal Stout, and some Belgian beer.
- And now:
- A Haiku Moment: Galactica Falls
- We’re light on content. We’re resorting to bribery. Send us something really cool, and ongoing. And you get an MST3K collection.
- As Evo was semi-asleep, he was thinking of Summer and dick.
- A rendition of A Girl, a Goose, and We All Go Home. Check out King Francis’ Live Journal
- It’s election week, and Evo’s delving into politics. And religion. All he doesn’t do is bring up Heroes to Jack.
- Real Time with Bill Mahr a balanced political show? I wouldn’t go that far, but it’s still a decent show.
- Oh, my God, they’re still talking politics.
- Jesus Christ, guys!
- Scifi Poetry Slam: Every Thirty Years on Cygnus Five by Samantha Henderson
- Check out Mur’s Viable Paradise Party live podcast at I Should Be Writing.
- A Young Frankenstien moment.
- An old movie marathon. That’s a cool idea. Also, check out Hey, want to watch a movie? We need to do something like that with Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Let’s see if they’re all talk.
- Rebeer!
- The Digital Camer Addict sent Evo a link for the Snakes on a Plane Sudoku book.
- I love Minesweeper! And Weird Al’s White and Nerdy.
- A Tech Service reality show? And what is funny?
I bet Kris made the apple bread ‘cuz I asked, and I wasn’t there. Thank you, Kris.
Thanks to Eamon for the beer. Thanks to Wendy for the posters.

“Blücher” is supposed to be the german word for “glue”? The sticky stuff?
Sorry to disappoint you guys, but Blücher is nothing but a name here in Germany. At least it does not mean glue.

There is a Young’s pub up the road. Good stuff.

Wow – stay away from politics. This was perhaps the least sophisticated political discussion imaginable. I think I have heard deeper discussion among high college sophomores.

The tech show is called “I.T. Crowd) http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/I/itcrowd/

More like, “Power draws the corruptible!”

My Dad is one of those people who seems to believe in the political party of 30 years ago and still laments that his guy didn’t win back then. I think if he really did check what he believes with what the political parties stand for he’d end up changing his party.

For those of you wondering about the Japanese video Jack was talking about:

The I.T. Crowd is hilarious. I downlo … er … took a jet to the U.K. to watch all the episodes. There is one episode in particular where someone’s desk catches on fire and instead of putting it out one of the characters places an empty monitor casing in front of the fire to make it look like a screensaver. I also like the opening music.

Politics and religion do not go hand in hand. That’s a theocracy and we are NOT a theocracy. Don’t vote based on religion. That is one of the HUGE problems with our current “leaders.”
November 2nd, 2006 at 10:48 am
Values are fine, but not religion…

Ah, crap you guys. Do some research on the people, there are plenty of good candidates out there. Its not all gloom and doom, we just really need a balance of power. The past 6 years has been all republican so its been a rubber stamp government with no oversight. America has always been best with a congressional majority that is the opposite party than the president. That is what we need to begin with, then the boat will start to right itself.

Hey what happened to GYGO ep 13??

Oh, the IT Crowd. Good show. Having a summer job working with people’s computers I totally related to all the tech gags. Here is the link to the bit with the button gag…

Looking back over the clips, I’ve found my “Are you from the past moment.” I’m in tears laughing about it as I type it.

and yeah, that’s Donny Osmond in there.
And Hey! Evo, did you get my package? I figured if you can get a few more, you can wallpaper Draco Vista Studios.

Great Show, Guys, and Thanks for playing my Promo, Mike!

I think it was a 40,000-ft overview. Notice how no individual names were mentioned. The point: the system is broken. The system has failed.
Those IT crowd clips are pretty funny.

Now that I’ve had a chance to actually listen to the show I realize just how appropriate my post was. ROFLMAO!
I think at least 50% of Al’s video was mentioned during the cast. Too Funny!

I am sure there is a lot of voice messages on this. Blucher does not mean glue. There is no secret in-joke with the name. It was just a running gag paying homage to the clap of thunder when a villain is introduced. Funny in it’s own right in that the horses have no reason to be upset over the name Blucher, other than Mel Brooks involvement.

But that’s not nearly as much fun as glue.
Great to read about, but not nearly as much fun.

Klebstoff is german for glue. Just rolls off the tongue doesn’t it…

If you believe Evo’s on to something, vis a vis his politics rant, you’ll probably enjoy the 1949 movie of Robert Penn Warran’s “All The King’s Men” Note well, the 1949 version, not the sorry mess with Sean Penn released earlier this year. Finding the right one can be a little confusing as the ‘49 verson was re-released, with a picture of James Gando;fini on the cover, as part of a pre-release promotion for the 2006 version. Sigh.
Michael Craven – well, yes, the discussion was on a college bull session level, but what is Wingin’ It if not a damn fine impression of a college bull session? And my thought was, hell, that’s the best political discussion I’ve heard in a long time — which is just a bit scarry, when you come to think of it.
Evo (and gang) your impressions of the national parties are not unreasonable. However, there is a HUGE disconnect between national politics and local (city/county/township) politics. And in local I’ll include the locally elected representatives to the State legislature. I do not include State wide officers (governor, AG, etc) or federal legislators. Visit local city/county offices and you’ll find a very different atmosphere. Sure, in big cities (Phoenix, LA, Chicago, etc) city politics are not very local, but ward/precinct politics is. Visit a meeting of the county Republican or Democratic party. Very different. To the extent that we let the national parties dictate to the local organizations, we really do deserve the government we get.
