Voted. Now leave me alone.

I voted today, so if I get one more phone call from some organization, party or candidate, I now have license to skull fuck the nearest person of the same political persuasion.

Yep, got up at 5am this morning, just so I could beat the crowds. The political ads and phone calls can end now.

  2. Ed from Texas Says:

Jeez, I agree. I have gotten at least three computer calls a day for the last two weeks.

It’s almost enough to have suppressed my turnout. But, I shall still do my civic duty today, holding my nose the whole time.

  3. Thomas Says:

One bright side of not having a landline and having horrible signal strength at work. My phone hardly ever gets unwanted phone messages.

  4. Tony Says:

What really sucks around here is that we are so close to a bellwether state (Missouri) that we are getting fucking assaulted by adverts on every side… and I can’t even vote for (writing in) William Adama because I live in Illinois…

Ah well, after work I’m casting my vote for ‘the old man’.

So I get one of those calls the other day while I was sitting at my computer and thought “The frell with this!” I looked for that candidates web site and sure enough there was a phone number. So I call it and it turns out to be that candidates CELL PHONE!!!!!

I call it and proceed to tell this person how incredibly annoyed I was to be getting these calls and who in the right mind thinks that annoying me will make me support them and why were they ignoring the fact I was on the DO NOT CALL LIST!

The candidate then made the mistake of trying to assure me that their campaign people said it was a good idea and that all the calls were being done legally.

    WRONG ANSWER!!!!!

I said that legality was NOT in question here. What was in question was how dare a candidate IGNOR my specific request NOT to be called in order to ask AS A FAVOR for my vote!?!?
I said either you just don’t care to honor my wishes or you couldn’t be bothered to find out if this was against my wishes to begin with.
In either case you are proving that you simply DO NOT CARE whether I wanted to get these automated calls or not. Since you don’t care before you’ve even gotten the job why would I think you’d care once you were securely in office.

The candidate had no answer. Instead they began back pedaling and trying to shift the blame (imagine that) to a campaign advisor who said this was the most cost effective way to get the word out and that they were a very low budget campaign compared to the competitors.

I explained that I had an even MORE cost-effective way to get the word out. I was going to send this incident to everyone on my e-mail list in that district and ask them to forward it to everyone on THEIR e-mail list and by that afternoon hundreds of voters would know of their contempt for the voters wishes and it would all be FOR FREE!!!!

    I did and they did.

  6. Tony Says:

The shit of it is that even with the ‘No Call’ lists most of those either have someone else do the work or leave an exemption in for politicians.

I heard that a local newspaper was autocalling people they had done business with(a legal exemption) and “endorsing” specific candidates.

  7. Philip from Australia Says:

Well… I don’t vote until the 25 Nov…. And I STILL don’t know who to support. They are all jerks.

    And Federal elections next year.

Mind you, we had a good horse race (actual horses) on your election day. Another reason to live here. :)

  8. Mad Dog From Melbourne Says:

I’m with you there Phil. Still, sounds like we don’t have it as bad as our friends in the US… yet. Only a matter of time though.

As for the Melbourne Cup, I’m just glad we got a public holiday! Woo hoo!

  9. Nigel from Melbourne Says:

I am pretty sure Melbourne is the only city to have a public holiday for a Horse race.
I still don’t know who to put the money on the Election.
