On my first visit to Draco Vista Studios, I was welcomed at the door by Joe Murphy, who’s welcome was immediate and unquestioning. I soon realized that the entire crew there that day (Mike, Evo, Summer, Joe, Jack, Sheila and Lorri) all accepted me in their circle without question. Where I found that this is not uncommon in the Podcasting community in general, this feeling of belonging has never been equaled in my experience.

Joe has been there for much of my return visits. And while I never had quality one-on-one time with Joe, his contribution to the conversation and general mood never ceased to amaze me, with his intelligence, good humor, and positive attitude mixing with a wide breadth of genre knowledge.

Joe will be missed; of that there is no doubt. My heart aches, so I’ll do what I can. Please join me in donating to Joe and his family.

Thanks for the news. I am sitting here crying my eyes out for someone I’ve never met and never will, because by listening to Wingin’ It and hearing Joe every week, I feel like I’ve come to know him at least a little. There are no words for this. Joe will be missed by so many people all over the world and I can’t think of a better testament for such a fantastic guy. I’m thinking of him and will continue to, no matter what happens. I’ll lift a Barenjager for you, Joe.

What is the measure of a man? Karin said it all, his friends. I have listened to your work for only a month or so before Joe was diagnosed. In that time I have laughed,cryed, been shocked and amazed, and was stuck mute hearing about Joe’s illness. I wanted to thank everyone at FPM for keeping us informed about his condition even though it must be a painful window to open. Please take the time that you need to deal with the situation we all understand and will be patient. If Joe must leave us then may his final days be peaceful and painless for we all can see that he is surrounded by love and support.

I’ve been following Joe’s progress closely, hoping in vain for a miracle. He brought so many smiles and laughs to SO many people. He and all of you have consumed my thoughts all day. I hope he’s feeling no pain, and that you all find the comfort that you need in each other. We’ll be here for you when you feel ready to come back.

Personally, I’m of the belief that there’s further adventures beyond this one, so have one hell of a great journey, Randy Innuendo. Wherever you go, I hope there’s lots of porn there.

I never knew you personally Joe but through listening for what seems years of your voice through Slice of Sci-Fi and Wingin’ it. From the small part of your life that I do know you’re a fighter and will keep fighting until you take your last breath. Let that last breath be years from now and if sooner let it be the best breath of life you take before you leave this earth. I can only hope that Joe can move on in peace knowing the difference he’s made in each of us. I’ve listened since the end of Live Fire, so I was used to hearing his voice weekly. It saddens me that will no longer be true.

Mike having known a little bit more than most during the live feed and then hearing what was going on after in the studio as I was on the skype call I was bloody amazed at how ‘normal’ the show seemed. My thoughts go to Joe’s family and friends at this time and I understand why you will likely be ‘going dark’ as you put it. If you decide to come back, in whatever format that may be. I for one will listen.

I don’t know if it’s been said in earlier posts but Joe will only truly be gone when no-one remebers him. And I don’t think those that ever heard him will forget.

This week’s show is a normal one, nothing new in it on Joe, but it was very hard on me and the folks in the studio. To everyone’s credit, I think we did a good job pulling off a show as if there was nothing wrong, but I do believe that we may be going on a break.

We’ll have a formal announcement this week, but you should expect us to go dark during this hard time.
