Joe Update - Leann rocks
During the Sunday visit, Mike got a call from Leann regarding getting Penn and Teller to make a visit. She was able to get Teller Joe’s cell phone number and Mike got word that Teller gave Joe a call. They talked for several minutes. Joe had a spark of excitement for the first time in a long while, and we all need to give Leann huge props for pulling this off.
Leann called Mike and told him to check the WI voicemail. There was a message for Joe from Penn. He had called in and left a long, in very Penn fashion, personal message to Joe.
Things are by no means good, but this little bit of excitement today sure made the world a bit better. Thank you Leann, you did good.

Today Mike took up the message that Penn left on our voicemail line for Joe to listen to.
Joe was in much improved spirits today and Mike attributes it all to the conversation that he had with Teller. He was jabbering up a storm and Mike was told several times by his dad and his aunt that Joe talked about it for quite some time.
This is a big change from the last few days where he would only talk to everyone for a couple minutes before asking us to leave so he could rest.
The message that Penn left also brought a smile and some comments of how amazing it was to have them do that for him. Mike and everyone had a long conversation about the well wishes and comments he had been recieving during his time in the hospital, and he was able to relay many of the good thoughts and prayers.
Joe knows that you all care and that you have sent in your love. Just know that your messages have not gone unheard.
As Mike would say “Again, Leann, you dun good!”

Fantastic, Leann, absolutely fantastic.
Joe, you have our love

Leann. I can’t put it better than in the original post. You do indeed rock.
It’s amazing the power something like this can actually have. I could not be in enough awe that you managed to make this happen and in how much of a difference it has made.

Talk about setting the bar pretty high! Great job, Leann. You rock!

Top stuff, any thing that helps at this time is just a great effort.
March 27th, 2007 at 5:04 am
Don’t know how you did it Leann, but it’s quite amazing. Many thanks for arranging this.

I have such a case of the warm-fuzzies just knowing something I pulled off, and still don’t know how, :), made Joe smile, and brought a little joy to him.
All I did was know the right people, and just asked. That’s all it took. I am still freaked out it went so smoothly.
I have been glowing all day yesterday and again this morning, just the feeling I was able to do something that had such an impact for Joe brings a tear to my eye.
For real.

Not to take anything away from what Leann accomplished, but we should also say thanks Penn and Teller for being to ones to be the catalyst for Joe’s improved state of being.
That was a great and wonderful thing the guys did by making themselves available for something of this nature.
See kids, this is how you use your power for good.

Yes they performed a little magic.
March 27th, 2007 at 6:22 am
Damn…that’s Kick-Ass! Thanks Leann (and yeah…Thanks to Penn and Teller too!)
March 27th, 2007 at 6:25 am
Awesome props to Leann, Penn and Teller. You guys just racked up 100,000 good karma points each. Now’s your chance to go rob a bank or something, you’re forgiven. Keep smiling, Joe!

Totally Mike. And let us not forget my buddy Thomas in Vegas who hand delivered my note to Penn and Teller that night.
HE totally took time out of his evening to do that favor for me. How freakin’ cool is that!
And YES total props to Penn and Teller. Teller was SUCH a nice guy on the phone when he called, and was so understanding and cool. He even called me back after speaking with Joe to let me know he go through to him.
My friend Thomas is going to whip up something to take to them as a thank you for doing this, so if you want to add something or whatever let me know and I will get you in touch with him.

Ooh, a thought: Penn and Teller getting goodies from Chris the Cheescake Lady…?
Pretty sure that neither Penn nor Teller drink, so beer is right out…
March 27th, 2007 at 6:53 am
You know, that’s just brilliant. When Penn Jillette had a podcast (of a CBS radio show that’s been cancelled, dammit), I was surprised and amazed to find out that he seems to be a really nice guy. Yeah, he’s a horndog, but so what?
Way to go, Leann. And many thanks to Penn and Teller, and much love to Joe.
March 27th, 2007 at 7:02 am
Yeah, I was a big fan of Penn’s show, but, alas, I discovered it three weeks before the last ep. Ah, Irony.
March 27th, 2007 at 7:23 am
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
Echoing the thanks to Leann and Thomas for being fortunately enough to have the ability to pull this off, and the love and concern to make it happen. Y’all rock.
And clearly to Penn and Teller as well, for taking the time from their overfull schedules to brighten the life of a stranger, to a depth they may never comprehend. Y’all rock.
I am vastly happy for Joe.
What was that about podcasting changing the world?
March 27th, 2007 at 7:44 am
Leann’s a damn Superheroine! That was Brilliant!
March 27th, 2007 at 7:52 am
kick.ass
*hug* to Leann

Leann - you’re my hero!
That was awesome that you were able to grant one of Joe’s wishes.
And kudos to Penn and Teller for taking the time to contact Joe, as well. Wow.
Like I posted yesterday - Joe is one supremely lucky guy to be surrounded (sometimes virtually) by such quality folks. I’m glad to hear that this brought him some happiness and energy and excitement.
Good job, guys!
March 27th, 2007 at 8:29 am
great stuff there guys & gals!
so good to hear that Joe’s spirits were lifted.
Lots of love from across the pond.
March 27th, 2007 at 8:45 am
So, now that P&T have had a chance to chat with Joe…
What we need to do now is concentrate on a way to get Jenna Jameson to deliver Joe a pizza!
March 27th, 2007 at 10:12 am
Leann, that was a wonderful thing! Way to milk those contacts! I’m sure karma is raining all over you and Penn and Teller now.
March 27th, 2007 at 10:41 am
Of course nice one to Penn and Teller as well. There’s not many celebrities that you hear of will do something like this.
March 27th, 2007 at 11:44 am
….And that makes you mighty.
Awsome, guys.
March 27th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
My wife has a friend who is friends with Penn’s wife, Emily (how’s that for a six degrees connection). I have met Penn & Teller twice after their Vegas show. They seemed way cool before this, and their personal attention to Joe adds several million cool points to their score.
Chris does owe P&T some tasty food … look at Penn and know that he’s not a man to turn down a meal

Just tell me where to send the Aussie chocolates.
