It takes a very special person to make people that don’t really even know him love him all the same. I have “known” Joe for what seems to me like a long time, through my iPod, and occasionally through the live feed irc chats. I have never met the man and yet I felt a great loss this morning when I heard the news. Joe, you moved me and I will miss you.

The Empty Chair

There is an empty chair,
in the studio this day.
A hallowed place where,
a friend once stayed.

What an amazing man. What an amazing group of people around him. I have just heard the news and am listening to the memorial show at the moment. I am sorry to hear Joe has moved on to the next great adventure but I am inspired by his courage in the face of his sickness. How many people do we know that could look at such a challenge with humour and courage? I also want to say that his friends, the whole crew of wingin it, leanne, mur and everyone who stood by him, really inspired me and give people a glimpse of what real support is.
Joe, whatever your doing, I hope the sun is on your back and the wind is in your hair. Have a good one

The first words I heard him say as he walked in the room in 5th grade… “Hi, I’m Joe. Will you be my friend?”
The last words I heard him say as I turned to walk out of the room on Saturday… “I’ll see you later.”
In the 25 years between those two moments, I was blessed to have a friend like Joe. I will cherish those moments forever.

Joe is an inspiration to anyone fighting a difficult fight. His mix of humor, compassion and kindness when he was going through tough times is in my mind the model to follow when dealing with tragedy.

I only knew Joe from Far Point’s shows but today upon hearing the news it feels like I’ve lost a close friend. The shock was incredible and I’m here half a world away and I never met the guy in person – which is really my loss.

To the people and Evo at Far Point and Joe’s family, my thoughts are with you.
