I am going to further tempt fate by listening to a show I am on and called into, where will the insanity end. ;)

  2. Michael R. Mennenga Says:

The rip in the space-time continuum will only widen. Stop Thomas, before you destroy us ALL!

  3. Eliza Sea Says:

I did not say Normie. Personally, I think that if you are going to write it, it should end in “ie”. It looks cuter that way.

  4. Tim from Michigan Says:

Thark!? For God’s sake, you people call yourselfs SF geeks (well, not Evo, so he’s forgiven) and you didn’t immediately think “Tars Tarkas, Jeddak of Thark” from Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Mars books? The first of which was written in 1911 and published in 1912. So, Evo’s a tad late on the word coinage front. Like 96 years!

The center image is decent illustration of what appears to be John Carter, Deja Thoris and Tars Tarkas. He’s the tall guy with the spear/lance.

OK, my 2 cents on the impending demise of Wingin It.

Ultimately, … I think it is what’s best for the health of the Far Point Media Family.

Besides the obvious (it gives those guys more time to focus on turning FPM into a PROFIT making venture and in this case I think that profitable = longevity) I think it will help grow the audience for their other shows.
I base this on my own reaction to their recent absence.
While I had been an occasional “Slice”listener, when WI went silent I found myself actually subscribing to Slice and downloading recent episodes … all to try and get my “fix”.
No, “slice” isn’t the same thing but it does have a lot of the same sensibilities, humor and certainly all of the geekyness.

So maybe people will tune into things like “Speaking of Beer” to get their fix of “new” beer discoveries … and “Food Geeking” to get their share of tasty treat talk …and The Cup Car Update for, well - their really isn’t any cross over their but I had to pimp the show ;)

I don’t think any of the other FPM shows have ALL that WI has/had … but maybe we WI fans can find what we need spread among several of them.

I do think that a lot of the success of this transition will involve having people from these other shows on the remaining WI episodes to make sure the WI audience has a chance to fall in love with them before the WI feed goes dark.

The other thing that I think will be important as far as keeping this “community” together will be the occasional WingIn It episode. Perhaps they should consider a “Quarterly” WingIn It Podcast. After all, all your successful corporations have quarterly updates for their stockholders (complete with webcast “conference calls”) and of course … Annual Stockholder meetings!!!

Building on that … maybe they should sell stock in FPM. $10 gets you a share … and every shareholder is entitled to attend the “Annual Stockholder’s Meeting” which could be a live podcast and PARTY from one of the cons ! Heck, when they grow big enough the meeting can be at their OWN con and we can have it in VEGAS baby!

Summation - I feel loss at the thought of WingIn it not being there every week … but if they handle this right, this could ensure the survival of the FPM family (and the sense of WI fun) for a long, long time.
